Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially hosted Michael Offorkaile, the indigene who achieved a score of 367 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Offorkaile’s impressive score ranked him as the fifth-highest performer nationwide in the examination. The student was accompanied to the governor’s office by his parents and representatives from the management of Grundtvig International Secondary School in Oba, Anambra State, where he completed his secondary education.
Key Highlights of the Reception
- Commitment to Merit: Governor Otti praised the young scholar’s remarkable academic achievement, emphasizing that his administration is built on a foundation of meritocracy and is fully dedicated to recognizing and celebrating Abia citizens who excel globally and locally.
- Directives for Support: The governor pledged financial and administrative backing toward Offorkaile’s upcoming university education. He directed the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche, alongside the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Dodoh Okafor, to coordinate directly with the student’s family to finalize the support package.
- Encouragement for the Future: Urging Offorkaile to treat the milestone as merely a stepping stone, Governor Otti challenged him to maintain his high academic standards as he transitions into a four-year degree program.
- Testimonies and Gratitude: Prof. Eme Uche revealed that the state government actively tracked down the top scorer to ensure proper recognition. The school principal, Mr. Ige Bello, and the student’s father, Mr. Odinaka Offorkaile—who hails from the Umunneochi Local Government Area—expressed gratitude for the governor’s recognition and lauded his administration’s investments in the education sector.
An elated Michael Offorkaile expressed his appreciation to the governor, naming him a personal role model and pledging to continue making both Abia State and Nigeria proud through future academic successes. The visit concluded with the school principal presenting a commemorative school yearbook to the governor.
